Jota Mombaça

1991, lives and works Natal, Brazil

Lives and works between Lisbon, Portugal, and Amsterdam, Netherlands

Jota Mombaça is an undisciplinary artist and writer whose work derives from poetry, critical theory and performance. Her practice is related to anti-colonial critique and gender disobedience. Through performance, visionary fiction and situational strategies of knowledge production, she aims to rehearse the end of the world as we know it and the figuration of what comes after we dislodge the colonial-modern subject from its podium. She has presented works in various institutional contexts, such as the 32nd and 34th São Paulo Biennale, 10th Berlin Biennale, 22nd Sydney Biennale and 46th National Artists’ Salon of Colombia. She is the author of the book NÃO VÃO NOS MATAR AGORA, published in Portugal in 2019 by EGEAC and in Brazil in 2021 by Cobogó Publishing.

Jota Mombaça participated in the show Unfinished Camp@Pivô in 2022
